To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the National Museum of Western Art’s inscription on the World Heritage List in July 2026, MT Gallery is publishing a photo book by photographer Mikiya Takimoto. With the full cooperation of the museum, designed by Le Corbusier, Takimoto was permitted to photograph the museum’s interior and rooftop, areas that are normally off-limits to photographers.
An exhibition of photographic works printed on Japanese paper using partition screens and hanging scrolls in the tokonomas [alcoves] of the Former Asakura Family Residence, a designated Important Cultural Property. The air wafting through the venue, its enveloping tranquility, represent interwoven threads of time spent here by the former Asakura family, and also the months and years that will continue to accumulate into the future. I curated the exhibition with the concept of Japan’s ‘Wa’ [harmony] at its core, believing that resonance with the space was essential for them to coalesce. Two minutes on foot from Daikanyama Hillside Terrace. I welcome you to this photographic exhibition: FOSS Satellite Exhibition Mikiya Takimoto. August 5 (Tue) to 24, 2025 (Sun). 10:00 to 18:00 (Last admission 17:30) (Closed Mon). 29-20 Sarugaku-cho, Shibuya City, Tokyo. General admission: 500 yen.
